Who is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes?
Since 1954, FCA has been challenging athletes and coaches at every level to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ.
FCA is the largest interdenominational, school-based, Christian sports ministry in America reaching over 1.5 million people annually. It provides a positive peer group as an alternative to the negative pressures so prevalent in schools today. FCA is also a vehicle for teammates to influence others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to offer a different lifestyle to the worldly ways often found on our campuses and in sports today. |
| Live Loud Like Landon
“Ripple effect…it’s more like a tidal wave. You have coaches, trainers, professors, not just the students, but the whole (Limestone College) campus has been affected. To the point that we made a statement to the crowd, ‘If you knew today that you were going to die, what would you do differently?’ and you would not believe all those who came up. We’re just now getting into some people’s doors because of his life. People are more vulnerable, more open, more receptive to the message.” Pierre Salmon Landon Guglielmana, of Madera, California packed more living into 18 years than some people will in a lifetime. On the way back to Limestone College from Thanksgiving break, the freshman’s car ran off the road. His life ended.
His legacy did not. “Landon was the type of person, even if you only met him for a minute, you’d love him forever, and always remember him.” Courtney Taotoai , friends with Landon at Limestone, says if there was music playing, Landon was dancing. She remembers that he was always happy, always smiling. Landon told her he missed home, but had found his Christian family through FCA. Read more »
Impacting the Leaders of Tomorrow
Every year at SC FCA’s weekend-long middle school retreat there is a lot of singing, a lot of learning, eating, competing, making friends, and challenging oneself… but only a LITTLE sleep! Workers say it’s all worth it. “You can say a lot from a distance, but when kids see your relationship with God up close, it means a lot. They see a different meaning.” Marques Kyles, a baseball player at Limestone College, is one of many college students from all over the Palmetto State who volunteer their entire weekend to ‘camp out’ with and lead small groups of ten kids, called ‘huddles.’ Huddle leader Julianna Smith, of Clemson University, knows God appointed this time for each kid. “Little specific things that other people don’t pick up on mean so much to specific kids because of what’s going on in their lives.” Read more »
| Dear FCA Team & Friends,
We just had our Annual SCBCA Winter Clinic outreach breakfast this past Saturday. 125 South Carolina High School Coaches met for the FCA Breakfast. Our program featured USC Baseball players Whitt Merrifield & Richard Royal and FCA Baseball National Director Dave Daly from NC. Also – our friend, former Airport HS Baseball Coach Mike Morris, was honored for his influence on SC baseball. We had a wonderful time and saw four “significant” Head baseball coaches indicate a re-commitment and four others asked for more information.
My prayer is that these men would be discipled or at least involved in a coaches study led by our local staff or a solid Christian coach in their community. A friend attended Saturday morning sent me this email Sunday night:
“I would like to take this time to say Thank You for all your help with the FCA Breakfast. It is a very special time for us. Each of our coaches look forward to the event. David Daly was excellent. His presentation was inspiring. He touched many lives. There were many positive comments. It was great to have him here. And the players (Whitt Merrifield and Richard Royal) were very good. It takes something special for these young men to speak in front of coaches. Mike Morris is a very special person to me and the association. He is very worthy of the honor he received. Thank you again. I hope to see and talk with you soon." Thanks for praying and helping make these events possible! - David "Twig" Gray, FCA Multi-Area Director

God gave us a wonderful event at the FCA Shrine Bowl Breakfast! Former USC player Jonathan Alston shared his testimony and Adrian Despres did a masterful job of communicating the Gospel with clarity and power. At the end of the event – most of the players and coaches were on their knees – giving a gift of themselves to Christ (see pictures below). Twenty-one (21) indicated receiving Christ, forty-six (46) indicated making a recommitment and 11 asked for more information. Wow – what a special morning. | |
