St. Simon's Leadership Camp II
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,
while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."
John 15: 1-2
The pruning has begun! This part of our Christian growth process is not always fun. Sometimes cutting things out of our lives or starting new things is painful and scary. But, Jesus "pruned" 16-year-old Grace Westbury at one of FCA's summer camps last week, and she loved every minute of it! "It really showed me how to live with integrity, intelligence and service. I thought I was already doing all those things, but it showed me how to really live it in every detail and everyday. It showed me how to live to my full potential as a Christian athlete."
Westbury has been to quite a few Christian camps, but she says this FCA Leadership Camp at St.Simon's Island, GA was different. "Out of all those I've been to, this was my very favorite. Because the focus was really centered on God and they tried to eliminate distractions." Used to singing hymns at church, she enjoyed contemporary worship at camp, small group sessions for building wisdom, and life-changing prayer walks. "The prayer walk changed a lot of people's lives, too. One girl, right before we went, she accepted Jesus as her Savior, and I know that happened in quite a few groups."
Mostly, though, Westbury realized a big responsibility to bear fruit at home. "It was one of the best camps I've been to. It's really centered on God, and it empowers you to come back home and be on fire for the Lord and do things in your school and community. I'm really ready to go back to school now and start FCA at my school." That's right...she doesn't have an FCA huddle at her school. But, she says that will change in August. She and a couple of her classmates are starting their school's first FCA chapter this year!
There are schools in your area with students who are thirsty for Jesus' love. As evidenced by Grace Westbury's story, FCA is a great avenue for God to work in schools. Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of this mission. You can pray, volunteer, send kids/teams/coaches to camps, or donate to your local chapter.
