Picking Your Team

Picking Your Team

"Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you
who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn
this responsibility over to them."
- Acts 6:3

I have been smiling so hard for the past few days my face actually hurts! The cause of all this joy is the recent wedding of my oldest son Jeff and his beautiful bride, Kristin. At their rehearsal dinner, a video was shown featuring snapshots of their lives past and present. In the final picture they had added the words, "TEAM GEE" in anticipation of their impending marriage and life together. Two individuals coming together as one to make a TEAM. Picking a team is important. Red Auerbach, long-time coach and president of the Boston Celtics, said, "How you select people is more important than how you manage them once they're on the job. If you start with the right people, you won't have problems later on. You have to begin with the right raw materials in order to create a winning team. This formula works in marriage as well as in sports.

I want people close to me to......

Know my heart: This takes time for both of us and desire on their part.

Be loyal to me: They are an extension of me and my work.

Be trustworthy: They must not abuse authority, power, or confidence.

Be discerning: They make decisions for me.

Have a servant's heart: They carry a heavy load because of my heavy demands.

Be a good thinker: Our two heads are better than my one.

Be able to follow through: They take authority and carry out the vision.

Have a great heart for God: My heart for God is my driving force in life.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of serving on Your team. Give us a heart to serve others, but most of all a heart to serve You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

(In honor of Jeff & Kristin Gee - What an Awesome Team!)
