BRAND NEW HUDDLE BEGINS IN MCCORMICK COUNTY!

On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, a new FCA huddle began meeting at McCormick High School. Interestingly enough, this huddle was started under the direction of 2 coaches-both named Jimmy Hughes! Coach Hughes from McCormick Middle says, “I just felt as though it [FCA] was God’s calling for me in the community. It was something I prayed about as soon as I took the job. I later found out that McCormick had never had an FCA before, and it was kind of cool to get things started here.”

Coach Hughes from McCormick HS plays a vital role too by coordinating breakfast for each meeting. The student huddle is open to all 7th-12th graders and meets from 7:40 a.m.-8:10 a.m. each Wednesday morning in the McCormick HS Media Center. They are currently averaging 35-40 students every week. Current goals include seeing attendance increase, sponsoring a family or two for Christmas, and, above all, seeing students accept Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives. McCormick MS’s Coach Hughes says, “God calls us to be ‘fishers of men’, and we are not doing our job as Christians if we can’t deliver the Great Commission.” Way to go, McCormick! We know God will continue blessing this new endeavor.

MARION MOORE

An organization like Lakelands FCA could not happen without the dedication of loyal volunteers like Marion Moore. Marion has been serving Lakelands FCA for 4 years. He is best known for the delicious meals he serves up at our annual Greenwood/Abbeville/McCormick Development Dinner and at the annual Golf Tournament. Marion was introduced to Lakelands FCA by fellow Sunday School class members, John and Susan Thompson. As a result of Susan’s enthusiasm for this ministry, Marion and most of the Drake Sunday School class at Main Street Methodist Church in Greenwood began supporting Lakelands FCA. In fact, 90% of Marion’s catering helpers at our events are members of the Drake class. Marion says, “I think FCA is a great thing. If you can bring kids to a place where they feel comfortable talking with another adult, that is good.” Marion also feels FCA provides many students with the confidence they need to succeed in an often insecure world. Marion is married to Nancy and they have 2 children-Haley, who is attending medical school in Charleston, and Ryan, who lives and works in Greenville. Thank you, Marion, for sharing your time, talents and resources with Lakelands FCA. You are playing an enormous role in helping us impact the Lakelands area for Jesus Christ!

SANDERS MS FCA PARTICIPATES IN “SEE YOU AT THE POLE”
More than 150 students and faculty gathered around the flag pole for “See You at the Pole” at Sanders MS in Laurens, on September 27. According to Beth White, FCA Huddle Coach, “They saw firsthand what Christ meant in Matthew 18:20 when He said, ‘Whenever two or three gather in my name, I am there with them’.” Students prayed specifically for their school and the issues they currently face. Thank you students and faculty for taking a stand for your faith!
