"Commit your activities to the Lord and your plans will be achieved"
Proverbs 16:3

With the beginning of another year, I know many of us have made or at least thought about that list of resolutions. I hope that one of those "resolves" (firm decision) is to take an honest assessment of our health. As a "guy", I'm not particularly fond of going to the doctor, dentist, optometrist or even the vet (I have a cat) for that matter. But I go because I want to stay healthy. While we know much of our health is genetic, let's not fool ourselves, it also takes hard work. If we know the value of good health, why is it so hard to make the commitment to follow healthy guidelines? Here are some suggestions from John C. Maxwell (Make Today Count) to help turn our attention to the subject and tackle it:

  1. Have a Purpose Worth Living For - It's hard to find motivation in the moment when there is no hope in the future.
  2. Do Work You Enjoy - One of the ways you can tell you're working in an area of strength is that it actually gives you energy.
  3. Find Your Pace - Find balance in your life. "If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." - Mickey Mantle
  4. Accept Your Personal Worth - Have a good sense of self-worth and confidence in your work.
  5. Laugh - Never take life or ourselves too seriously. "I've done the research and I hate to tell you but everybody dies-joggers, vegetarians and non-smokers." - Bernie Siegel
  6. Eat Right - The key to healthy eating is moderation and managing what you eat every day.
  7. Exercise - Be consistent. Put it on your calendar.

"Heavenly Father, you created me for service to You and to others. Guide me each day in making good choices regarding my mental and physical health. Help me to understand that all my activities are acts of worship to You. Amen."
