GO TIME!
It's much easier to witness to people while on a foreign mission trip, and it's definitely less intimidating to share your testimony while at a Christian camp, surrounded by those who support you. You probably know just how much harder it is to witness to a co-worker who could shut you down and then talk about you in the office. And while you may have gone door-to-door in other countries, you may shudder at even the thought of knocking on your neighbor's door. Why? Because it's hard to be vulnerable and open yourself up to rejection, especially in your comfort zone.
Imagine then, the guts it took for Dakota, a South Carolina teenager, to come home from St. Simon's Leadership Camp and admit he had been living a lie. You see, only those who are already thought of as 'Christian leaders' in their schools are chosen to go to this FCA camp. But, while those around him thought he was on the straight and narrow path, Dakota was drinking and doing drugs. He came to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp to grow athletically. Little did he know he'd leave as a re-dedicated man, ready to change his life.
Since he's been home, Dakota has gotten up in front of his church (remember, these are people who already thought he was walking right) to confess and give his testimony from this summer. He's stopped hanging out with old friends. His facebook page has been updated to reflect his change of heart. Dakota is about to start back school, where he will be forced to be vulnerable and live out his faith in front of his peers. And he isn't the only one.
At this first session of St. Simon's Leadership Camp this summer, 15 out of 535 campers accepted Christ for the first time. Dozens re-dedicated their lives. The fruits of your labors - prayers, donations, time given - have been rewarded with lives that are no longer on the path to Hell! Thank you so much for partnering with FCA for summer camps. Though camps are done for the year, we still need your help. School is starting back, which is 'go time!' Now is when the students face a huge opposition - peer pressure. Join with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in reaching out to all the Dakotas of the future generations!
